Artist Statement

A collaboration between Carly Steiman and Millissa Martin, this exhibit honors the women in trades who shape our spaces and challenge societal norms every day.

Through evocative photography, we capture the details that define their work - hands gripping tools, weathered yet precise; faces that radiate determination and pride. These portraits are more than images; they tell stories of resilience, craftsmanship, and quiet strength.

Blending Carly’s experience in the trades with Millissa’s storytelling through photography, this exhibit celebrates the overlooked contributions of tradeswomen. It challenges outdated notions of gender and labor while showcasing the power and artistry in their work.

We hope this exhibit inspires others to recognize the value of tradeswomen and support their continued impact in our homes, communities and beyond.
